Opportunity Knocks!

University of Central Florida and
Associated Builders and Contractors
Student/Executive Mentoring Program
If you are a Central Florida construction executive, you might be interested in this important opportunity to help the "next generation" of construction employees navigate their way through UCF and into the industry.
Your interest in the ABC UCF mentoring program "Opportunity Knocks" is sincerely appreciated!
When you volunteer for this you’ll be an important part of the mentoring program between the construction industry executive and a UCF engineering and construction student.
I believe it will be a rewarding experience for you.
These young people need someone they can rely on for encouragement, focus, goal setting and celebrating their accomplishments. (You may be their only cheerleader)
A few assumptions need to be made clear from the onset: To put you on a level playing field of understanding.
1. Most students are in their third or fourth year of school
2. Most have Friday off other than possibly working so your availability in the next five months would be most convenient to meet 8am to 5pm on this day.
3. We’re expecting you to set up the meeting at a restaurant near the UCF campus or at a mutually agreed upon location for a 2 hour get together (see attached restaurants map)
4. Subject matter is only restricted by their own tolerance for censorship
5. We’d suggest you meet once a month for five months January-May
Now through May we suggest meetings be scheduled with your student. Be aware of your scheduling commitments as well as the UCF Spring Semester dates for activities.
Below, I’ve included a few suggestions that mentors should read in order to provide some basics to make your volunteer time more effective.
We thank you for your interest and I’m sure the student will grow from your investment.
